The story behind this piece

Fourteen women in Netrang used to sell fresh lemongrass by the bundle to a mandi agent for ₹9 a kilo. Dried and blended, the same kilo leaves their village worth more than sixty times that.

The shift was not a machine. It was a shade-drying rack, a weighing scale, and the decision that the packing would happen in the village and not in someone else's warehouse.

Tulsi grows outside almost every door here; nobody had considered it a crop. The first batch was blended in a steel thali on a Tuesday afternoon and sold out at a Bharuch exhibition in two days.

This is Van Arogya — forest wellness, owned by the women who know the plants.

How it's made

  1. 1Tulsi and lemongrass picked before 8 am, when the oils are highest.
  2. 2Shade-dried on raised racks for 3 days — never sun-bleached.
  3. 3Hand-cut, blended in small 5 kg lots, and moisture-checked.
  4. 4Packed in kraft pouches with an SHG batch number you can trace.

What your purchase changes

  • ₹320 is roughly 8 hours of fair-wage work in the blending unit.
  • Every 20 pouches fund one more shade-drying rack.
  • Keeps a Van Dhan processing unit running between harvest seasons.
